All fallen soldiers can be rescued if enough medics are available, which are earned at the end of each battle depending on how well the player has done. When this happens, the battle stops and players have direct control of the soldiers: A punches, B kicks and C blocks. If two opposing soldiers collide during battle, they engage in a fight (indicated by a cloud of dust). Although the basic commands are simple, the player must manage aspects such as distance to the target and angle of attack to be successful. Using the command team changes the controls, as the directional pad directly controls one soldier, and B is used to call out the other nearby soldier. The game is simple to learn, as the A button is used to fire at the nearest enemy, B to move to the location of the pointer and C to scroll through the soldiers.
Before each battle, players can choose their team composition from four options: Assault Team, Brute Force, Commandos (a team of only two soldiers who have different controls) and Demolition.
